One
of the major constraints hindering the progress of Indian agri-business is lack of supply chain integration wherein different stakeholders (viz. farmers, agro-input players, processors and retailers) have been operating in isolation. This lack of integration has created bottlenecks at each step thereby creating mismatches in the demand-supply situation. Farmers suffer from lack of linkages to the demand side as they are unaware on the kind of crop varieties which have high demand potential. Untimely and non-availability of quality inputs like seed, fertilizer, plant protection inputs and
agro-extension services is felt by the farmers which is critical for successful production of value added crops. Other hindrance relates to unfavorable farm policies on farm size, poor post-harvest infrastructure, domestic marketing, food laws, etc. Interaction between agro-processing industry and input players and farmers on the precise nature of inputs required is limited. From the demand side, the agro-processing and retail industry also suffers due to this lack of backward integration in terms of procurement comfort based on quality produce and the like. Peak Group proposes to offer a one-stop shop solution to integrate the food chain from the farm gate to the food plate.
